On January 17, 1994 an earthquake of 6.7 magnitude
hit Northridge, California. The
damage resulted in the closure of Charles Evans Hughes Junior High School.
Since the earthquake a small part of the school campus has been used
for district payroll, however the campus has been deemed-non operational
for student use. California law dictates that schools cannot be
constructed within 50 feet of active fault lines.
